The
favourable view entertained by Members of Council.
principal part of his scheme consisted in the acquisition
of a large area of land, and as he had not apparently even
taken the trouble to ascertain how much of this area was
Crown Land, and had only referred to its locality in a very
vague way, there appeared to be no alternative but to ask
him to specify precisely what areas he required as is
invariably done by every applicant for the purchase of land.
The rough survey required for such a purpose could in all
probability have been done locally at a trivial cost, and
the assistance of the Director of Public Works was promised
in Mr. Clementi's letter. So far from encouraging Mr.
Pescio to raise money for carrying out surveys, I may add
that it never occurred to me that any such preliminary
Syndicate would be required.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship's most obedient,
humble servant,
Hangarh
Governor,&c..
